The Bucket List
A few months ago a movie came out called, "The Bucket List," starring Jack Nicholson, Morgan Freeman, and Shean Hayes. Two terminally ill patients who are totally different in every aspect of life- race, etc., become friends and make a list of things they want to do before they "kick the bucket." The movie had me thinking. As Christians, what would we have on our list? Would you spend more time with family; share your faith with others; convert on person to Christ; pray more or maybe even travel to the places Jesus walked? Would your list look different than any other person who is not a Christian?
What would be on your bucket list? Share it with us.
What do you think?

Kinney,
I think my bucket list would be different than the usual, but of course I think we should live all the time as if this day could be our last. But this should be all in grace, and in dependence on God.
So yes, first things should come first. Loving God and loving our neighbor, first with our loved ones. Being faithful. Enjoying God and his good creation and gifts to us. Yes, wanting to grow and serve in the mission.
But I would emphasize that I want everyday to be a day in the Lord, in the Spirit, and in the will of God for me in Jesus. And not in big ways I may think of, but just in God's will, content in that.
Yet what that means, or how to really get it, is not easy. Beyond us, but that's just the point. We have to depend on God, be interdependent with each other, and be loving and bold in prayer and our witness.
I fear mine are more words than deeds. But I want that to change. Thanks for this post, brother. Good to think on!
The Blushing Bride and I saw this movie the last time we went on a "date" to the movies--and we laughed, and laughed, and (well, you get the picture).
I just have a couple of things on my bucket list:
1) Stop being selfish (be Unselfish)
2) Be like Jesus.
Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't, but these are the things that I really want to accomplish with great regularity.
Blessings,
Benj.
Kinney, I certainly have a bucket list that looks like almost anyone else's ...travel, adventure, writing a book etc.
But, I think the thing that I want to continue to grow in is this....
plan my life for interruptions so that when people need something or a conversation looks like it is going to take another cup of coffee, I am available to do that.
I think that the switch from being a Christian to being an atheist has changed my bucket list. I'm not going to go too far into it, but essentially, it comes down to how attached I become to things of this world.
The Bible tells us not to become too attached to things of this world because, if we're saved, we'll have much better things in heaven than the world can provide. Instead, we should work all our short lives to get stuff for eternity.
When you don't have any sort of belief in an afterlife, you begin to realize that now is the time to start enjoying things, that you can't depend on an eternal reward. Hence, you have to make your own rewards - life is the heaven or hell that you make of it. What really sucks is that sometimes, you don't have a choice because of how you were born, where you live, what disease you have, etc. I always thought it was... not unfair, but that's the best word I can come up with... unfair that we only got this one life. It lacks variety, and there's hardly enough time in one lifetime to do all the things you should do, especially when you fulfill even a fraction of societal and necessary expectations.
good question!
but, i do not have the slightest idea what i would do.
A few years ago I read about keeping a list of "100 Things To Do Before I Die." I've never sat down to do it, but I've always heard that it really helps you see the priorities in your life.
Maybe I'll finally do it.
Grace and peace,
Tim
The first thing that came to mind was being in Alaska on the "Deadliest Catch" fishing for King Crab. I would hang out with "Sig" and the crew of the Northwestern. Such hard, close to God's Creation, fisherman were the type that God chose to spread The Gospel.
Preacherman,
I am going to make my list today! Thanks for this great post and all these comments have helped me.
Be blessed today, always and forever.
Great topic Preacherman! I think I would read the Bible more, pray more and go to church more!
Give more
Tell more people about God
Look for people who need help
Spend more time talking to God
Spend more time talking about God
Impress on my child and grandchildren the importance of a relationship with God
A not to Magdalune: God is fair. That is why He actually gives us another shot. It is up to us where and how we will spend that next life.
Preacherman,
I would tell all of my family about Jesus.
It would take most of my time.
Love my family more than ever by spending a ton of time with them, talk to God more than ever, try to meet a few of my blog friends.
;-}, and call all those friends I haven’t called in a long time. Talk to folks about Jesus. I already do some of those things.
Hey Preacher,
I typically don't put links in comments, but I couldn't resist this time. Below is a powerful video about time.

I would read fewer blogs and go fishing more. I have not been since yesterday and will likely go again tomorrow.
I think we should live life well every single day. After all, tomorrow might be my last.
Love you bro'
Royce
I have many of the same things other people have. One big one is to spend more time with friends. Simple I know. But I think we tend to forget about personal relationships. I am far too goal focused.
morning pm,
hope ya are feeling better!
I would go to Europe with family and friends. :-)
I would do nothing.
Funny, Yea we should all live like this is our last day, but I do have a couple of things I would like to do. I would go tell my daughter-in-law I'm good as dead, so she can celebrate, then I would build an ark or something, I would step out in faith as never before. When I say that it sounds so wrong because it tells me I'm not stepping out in faith as I should. I guess that is what makes this a good blog when it makes us evaluate our walk.
I would slow down and enjoy the journey
i suppose we should get rid of the bucket list and live by the spirit.
get up and live...
Sad But True- At least you would be willing to try. I'm afraid, even then, I couldn't.
Are you doing okay Preacherman? j/w
I want to thank everyone for their adding to this discussion.
I appreciate everyone.
I want to let everyone know that this past few weeks have been very busy and rough.
This past weekend went to Lubbock Christian University's grad for my brother who graduated with a BA in business.
I have also had a lot of pain in my stomach.
Think it might be golbladder.
I go back to doctor tomorrow.
I am in great pain.
Keep me in your prayers.
I appreciate it.
hope go ok at the Doctor's !
and lay off the coffee! ;)
I'm reminded of the words of Billy Sunday. “I’m against sin. I’ll kick it as long as I’ve got a foot, and I’ll fight it as long as I’ve got a fist. I’ll butt it as long as I’ve got a head. I’ll bite it as long as I’ve got a tooth. And when I’m old and fist less and footless and toothless, I’ll gum it till I go home to Glory and it goes home to perdition!”
I'll be preaching and teaching until I physically can't do it anymore.
