When We Get To Heaven

I have been thinking about heaven lately. The questions I have: Will we really care when we get there? What will our focus and attention be? I believe our attention is going to be on God and worshiping Him. We aren't going to be concerned with who is there or not. If, I knew who was absent there would be sorrow and God tells us in Revelation, 21: 4 "He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away." I don't think our human minds can begin to comprehend heaven. So, God in Revelation 21 uses the things we treasure most in this life to say, that is what he paves the streets with; it is nothing. I think it is going to be a place of love, because God is love. I think it is going to be a place where we worship, because God is worthy of it. All the questions that we have for God on that day, will be gone. All the concerns of this life will vanish. All the pain. All the stress. All the trials. All the hardships of this world. It will all be wiped away into eternal bliss as we spend eternity with God our Father.
So, What do you think haven is going to be like?
What do picture it? Have you ever just sat and thought about eternity with God or without God? What that would be like? Have you ever thought what we or you would do in heaven?

Share your thoughts.
What do you think.

I remember the song, that I thought was fun and goofy, that we sang when I was a teen. "Heaven is a wonderful place, filled with....." I wonder sometimes if we treat heaven in the same way we treat hell at times - Just a place the happens at the end of time. I wish we would talk more about heaven. It will be a place where there won't be anymore politics, consumeristic views, petty arguments, no billboard out front, etc. WOW - just being in God's presence - that blows me away. NO time for questions, no time for comments just an eternal state of AWE. On second thought - Heaven is (will be) a wonderful place....

keep seeking praying and serving.

well, i do not remember much from the before, before i came here to live in this body...but God knows. i do not even dare to comment on this one, of what i think heaven will be..."like"...no comparison. no words to relate. none of my words would be worthy. i am trusting in God.

i love you, brother.
i pray, in Jesus our Savior, and lift you up to God for you to be in His care and Love. amen

I've always wondered how I would get to heaven and not be upset by the loved ones I knew weren't there. Nevertheless, I am ... excited isn't even a strong enough word. I can't wait!! :) Sometimes just thinking about heaven gets me through the tougher times of life. One of the things I'm looking forward to the most is meeting some of the bloggers that I haven't yet met!

Wow preach you really could open up a big can with this question!

We have been studying this on Wed. nights.

How about Rev. 21 and the picture of a "new heaven and new earth" emerging from heaven with an angel declaring that now God's dwelling will be with men.

How about Peter saying bascially the same thing in 2nd Peter in his context on end times.

Could heave been the renewal of all things which will be ushered in when Jesus comes again? - The renewal of the original paradise creation of God?

Something to think about!

I like your description Preacherman. I like the way that the apostle Peter described "the new heavens and new earth" in 2 Peter: "the home of righteousness." Everything will be right spiritually, physically, emotionally, and relationally among us (and between us and God). We will be at home and everything will be right.

My thoughts have changed over the years. I do think there will be perfect peace...but I also think I will work at a job (perhaps one my life has prepared me for?). I think we will have homes and know the joy of the presence of God.

I can't wait to see!

Just being in the presence of God the Father, God the Son and God the Spirit will be the most amazing part---to finally understand the Godhead completely and be able to BE totally spiritual.
Too cool to imagine.

I think it impossible for us to clearly imagine a place with no sin, not even a memory of it. The former things will have passed away and are gone forever. There will be no night, Jesus will be the light of it.

How can mere humans living in sinful flesh comprehend a demension where agape love is unchecked? A place where I will be as happy to see your daddy as my own? As happy to see your brother as my wife?

We can only have a glimpse, as through a glass darkly, of a place where there is no more fulfilling activity than to shout with the chorus of the saved "Worthy is the lamb" with our faces bowed low.

A new heaven, a new earth, with not one hint of the curse of sin on any created thing.

How can mortals, who were sinners all be made pure and holy, be engaged at once in worship and praise to He who is upon the throne and at the same time have the sweet fellowhip of a child with His father?

These things are too wonderful for this world and for our minds not yet glorified. But one day, some day, we will be like Him who gave Himself for us for we shall see Him clearly with eyes made only for His glory.

Grace to you,
Royce Ogle

This is something we just don't spend enough time dreaming about. I say "dreaming" instead of thinking, because most of the posters before me and you yourself in your post rightly point to the difficulty in discussing reasonably what eternal life with God would be like to a limited, shadow-haunted minds we now have. Every once in a while, I think it's healthy to dream and long for heaven, using good earthly delights as a jumping off point, saying "yeah, good like that, but with no end and no upper limit". Sunsets. The smell of fall. The satisfaction and quiet joy from really helping someone. The anxious anticipation of watching a child open your gift. The exhilaration of sharing great news with someone and watching their spirits soar. Heaven will be a heady stew of all these feelings, and many many more, the likes of which are limitless. What a mighty God we serve!

I believe it will be very much like the Garden of Eden was intended to be before the Fall. I don't believe that we'll be wisps of steam in a continuous worship service. The "steam" bit is a Greek concept not native to the Bible.

I believe there will be worship but there will also be life as it was intended.

I love this post! I'm so excited to go to heaven. One reason is that I feel like I can't worship God enough on this fallen earth. There's too much drama, there's too much trying to stand in my way. I'll be so happy when I can worship God with nothing interfering.

I also think that we will have new "lives", and probably homes, and jobs. I can't wait to meet the people in the bible. I envision sitting in a classroom and learning what I didn't learn on earth, from the actual people who were there!

Can you imagine...Moses, teaching a lesson?!

How cool!?

Jerry,
I totally understand what you mean. I wish we talked about it more. Yes, a place of no politics, consumericstic views, petty arguments, no billboards out front, etc, - just God's presence. It is going to be incredible. Eternal bliss. I appreciate your comments brother. You are so right on.

I think we will know who are there but we will not know who who isn't. God will wipe it from our minds for their will be no tears, sorrow, mourning, for the old order of things will pass away. Revelaiton 21. I am glad you are thinking about it. I think it keeps us encouraged and strengthended as Christians to think about Heaven. Jel, keep it up sister.

You are right, this could open up a can of worms will there be a new heaven and a new earth? Have you read Joe Beams new book on the subject? Will this earth be heaven since Jesus will come down? He deals in his book with will there be animals in heaven, etc. It is very intersting to say the least.

I to believe we will have jobs to do in heaven. We will praise God. We will serve Him. It will be all about Him. You make a very excellent point. I think too many people think that when they go to heaven all that they are going to do is relax forever and do nothing. I totally agree.

Preacherman,

Pondering heaven is one of my favorite past times. Recently I went into a really rich subdivision. I looked at the 2 and 3 stories, 3 and 4 car garages and then I got to go into one. The richness left my mouth agape. I then realized that the mansion that Jesus is preparing for me would make this one look like a hut. So my anticipation for heaven just continues to grow.
