Enjoying LIfe

James mentions in his letter that our lives are but a vapor; here today and gone tomorrow. I am 34 years old and it seems like life has flown by so fast. I have settle in my own mind and life to enjoy and cherish every moment that I can. I want to enjoy life. Yes, I know that there will be storms but I am going to strive cherish and enjoy every moment of life that I possibly can as a father, husband, and believer.

So, do you think life is short? Has the years gone by fast for you? How do we cherish every moment of life? How do we enjoy the life we have despite the storms? Do we enjoy the todays? What robs us of our joy in life? If we have lost the joy how do we get it back?

What do you think?

From this world, it can seem long, but looking back it will seem brief.

Hello Preacherman,

Perhaps the antique Methuselah, at 969 years old, thought his life was short!

Perhaps 50-60 good years following Christ is much better than living 90-100 years and never knowing God.

Perhaps God has a plan for our lives that we often don't understand ourselves...it may be short, long, bitter, or sweet.

Sometimes I need to take a break from watching/listening to the news and from reading blogs in order to enjoy life. I can get stressed out about things that either don't matter or I can't change when I spend too much time with the news or blogs. Sometimes I don't even read my own blog for days. :)

Good post and excellent questions as always, Kinney.

It is amazing how fast time flies! I'm 53, and I really can't believe it. You seem like a younster to me, yet I can remember being younger than you, and it doesn't feel all that long ago.

I think what you're saying here is getting at what I would say. Cherish each day. Don't live for the weekends- though be glad for them and vacations. Seek to enjoy each part of every day in some way. One might be in a boring job, but seek to do it as a song, and in song before the Lord. He can help break that boredom.

Love your children and your wife. Enjoy them, and don't be in a hurry around them. Savor each and every moment that is special, and learn to see each and every moment more and more as truly special.

Cherish friends. And try to keep tabs with them when apart, even though it won't be the same. Keep in touch.

I wish I would have done better in all I just said. I don't think I did very well for too many years, but God is faithful, and he's helped me to see and put something different into practice.

Hey, Preacherman! Being 34 myself, I have indeed noticed how fast life has gone by. In fact, have you noticed how the older you get, the faster time seems to go?

The key to enjoying life is in giving it all to Jesus. We need to come to the full realization that He's in control.

Robert Heinlein's almost-eternal character Lazarus Long had a motto: "Life is short but the years are long."

I think the only way I can be alive to the moment is to focus on my dwelling in Christ...walking In Him....otherwise I am focused on self and not seeing the moments/around me. Sometimes it actually helps me to just take a deep breath and think on Jesus and who I am in Him.

Great questions.

Our lives are short and full of all kinds of trouble. We miss out on the joys of each day when we tell ourselves that we will be happy when life is as it should be, more enjoyable. That day never comes. Enjoyment, taking pleasure in what you have today, must never be missed or rejected. Having good fun is serious business! The Book of Ecclesiastes teaches us this. It also says that you'd better get around to it before you get old. By then, having a good time isn't nearly as easy.

Hi Kinney,

Life is short. As I reflect on my life I love to ponder on the things that God got me through I didn't even realize. When the spirit talks I learned to listen. I think the Joy of life leaves us when we don't listen to he spirit.

Wonderful comments everyone. I think it is so important for us as believers to slow down and enjoy the life that God has given us. Enjoy time with God, time for yourself, family and friends. If we don't slow down and enjoy life, we will miss it. Again, our lives are but a vapor. It is short in terms of eternity.

Right after this post Farra Fawcett and Miceal Jackson died at 50. Young1
