I do know about you but I am going to strive to go this year if all possible.
During the time I have been here in Rocksprings I haven't go to any type of lectureships.
Again this year I am going to try to go.
I think it is going to be a great time.
I remember going as a young boy with my mom and dad.
The singing in the moody auditorium was heavenly.
I remember ever single church in town especially the congregation I grew up in would cancel wed. night serve and attend the lectureships.
If you when to the lectureship as a you child what do you remember. What has the ACU Lectureship done for you spiritual life? Why do you think so many conservative Christians are against it? If the church of Christ is non-denominational shouldn't the conservative churches just keep quiet about what speakers are speaking this year? What has changed since you last attended? How has it enriched your life? Do you think it is a good thing that they have moved it to September? Why? What do you think of the theme: Righteousness of God: Exploring Romans? How has the book of Roman effected your life? Why should the book of Romans be taught to Christian in the 21st century? Can you believe it has been going on for 91 years? Is there any of you bloggers that have gone to all 91? Share your experiences about what you like about the lectureship? What topics would you like to see in the future?
What do you think?
Share your thoughts.

Preacherman,
I always went when I was younger and still go now. I can't wait! I would love for us to get a cup of coffee and visit. Let me know when would be a good time for you.
Stan
I forgot to let everyone know the dates of the Summit.
It is going to be Sept. 21-24, 2008.
Stan,
I can't do coffee but mabye we can get some lunch. I'll keep in touch.
Kinney,
I hope to see you here in Abilene. If nothing else, maybe you can come to the Herald of Truth breakfast; we won't even make you drink coffee!
If not, I definitely want to find a time to meet face to face.
I've always enjoyed Lectureship at ACU, though the name really put me off when I was younger. They're obviously exploring the possibility of dropping Lectureship and just calling it Summit. I've been saddened to see the decline over the years; I hope they can turn things back around. For me, it's an especially good time to meet up with old friends.
Grace and peace,
Tim
Tim,
I will do whatever I can to make the breakfast. I thinki it will be a great opportunity to meet you and other fellow bloggers.
The speakers I want to hear are Jeff, Rick, and Rubel.

Preacherman,
I would love to take you out to the Town Cryer.
I love the steaks.
Dave
I wanted to let those who don't know what the ACU/Summit is, it is a time where Church of Christ members gather in Abilene for a Christian convention. All denominations are welcome to attend. The Summit is free and has many classes that go on through the day and key note speakers in the evening. It has always been a blessed time. I hope you find the time take off and enjoy this wonderful time.
Why do you think so many conservative Christians are against it?
A lot has changed in the past 25 years. I was a member of the Providence Rd congregation in Charlotte, but had left before Jeff Walling arrived. I've been back to visit a couple of times in the past few years, and *boy* is it different from the way it was. Some of my dear friends are still there. And many are not. I think those changes frighten some people. They see something they cherish fading away. I think, for some people, ACU is a symbol of that change.
I wish we could learn the lesson of Romans 14 (on *both* sides of the issues) and accept one another without passing judgment on disputable matters.
Alan,
I think it is because some of those conservative Christians and churches look at Jeff Walling, Rick Atchley, and Rubel Shelly, as well as others as liberal.
Allan,
Some even see them as "change agents"
I always enjoyed the big ten that they would always have out in front.
Jeff
Kinny,
I have to sit out on this. Too expensive to fly down from Virginia.
Anyway, I discovered that somehow I removed your link from my page. I clean it out occassionally and I believe the last time I had cleaned it out, I accidentally removed you. I don't know how I could have allowed myself to do that, aside from just not paying close attention. Because your link is missing from all three of my pages.
Thanks for the comments.
My Isaiah 6 post was written out of being grieved. I do no believe that we are exceedingly calculating in our attempts to understand.
Actually, Kinny,
You were only 'accidently' removed from 2 of 3 blogs of mine. I have your links back up on all three.
Cheers
Jim
i lift you and the whole shebang up to the Lord Jesus, for prayer and guidance, that His will be done, and that His Mercy and Grace abound within your joy and praise in Him for all that there is.
may God give you His Peace, Joy and Strength.
Alan brings up a good point but the problem tends to be that the more "traditional" folks will not have anything to do with folks who are striving for honest, non-denominational Christianity. This is true where we're from as we've made several efforts to reach out to a local traditional church. We've even had their preacher preach during one of our summer sessions.
Yet, they don't even come close to reciprocating and as of few days ago, this very same preacher walked out of restaurant when he walked in and saw some of us. The power of Rom.14 would be displayed if we can worship together and even fellowship together without passing judgment.
Leroy Garrett will be worth the price of admission. He is a resource that we should treasure.
As for your quesitons about the book of Romans. It is very special to me. I believe if our so called "conservative" brethern understood it fully they wouldn't be such knuckle heads much of the time.
Romans is so rich in doctrine and so often avoided in our pulpits.
Blessings Preacherman,
Royce
Hey! Thanks for the blessing and I am glad that you like

Right at this moment in time I need all the help I can get (like a lot of people!) but hey, I am healthy and have a lovely wife and sons, a roof over my head and food on the table at the moment so I am very grateful for your prayer to God for me but would it be ungrateful of me to pass your prayer on to someone who is more needy than me right now? Is this UNgrateful of me to ask this?
You are a good man!
I promise to try and keep up my good job!
Many thanks and greetings from wet old Little England!
Martin
I like to listen to Rubel Shelly, but it's too far for me to travel during the school year. I'll probably catch him in Tulsa again next spring, since he usually speaks at the Tulsa Workshop.
I can't wait to hear Jeff Walling.
Jane Martin
I just updated the post from yesterday. Brain McLaren will be a special guest. I know that it will be a bless to all who attend his sessions.
I can't believe Brian McLaren is going to be there. I am so pumped! Thank you brother for updating and letting us know about this summit.
William
In my post I forgot to mention the dates of the Lectureship/Summit.
The dates for the Summit are Sept. 21-24 in of course Abilene, Tx.

I can't wait to hear Rick Atchley. He is one my favorite preachers.
I am excited about meeting a bunch of emerging church ministers at the summit. I love listening to Brian McLaren. Thank you so much Preacherman for letting us know he is going to be speaking.
James
Kinney -
I am entertaining the thought of going this year. Have never been before. Reality says it will probably be more like next year before I make it.
I've never been before, but the change to September hurts me. I ALWAYS go to the Zoe Conference in Nashville, and it is the first weekend of October. So, 2 conferences in the span of 2 weeks is hard for me to pull off.
But, if I do make it out there one of these years, you're on my list of people to find! And if you ever make it to Tulsa, you better let me know!
Shane,
I know you will be blessed and strengthened.
I can't wait.
Thanks for letting us know the format Preacherman.
I hope you are feeling better.
Stacie
Funny, I just sent the link to some friends this morning and said, "Let's go!" Sounds great! I hope we can make it.
Would love to go but probably won't be able to make it. God bless you!
