Celtic Pride
I don't usually write about sports but last night the Celtics put "PRIDE" back in celtic pride. I am so glad that the celtics won the series. As most of you know I am a huge spurs fan mostly because of their class and dignity that they carry with them both on and off the court. I really appreciate the way in which the celtics played and that is with class and dignity. So do what did you think of the game? Where you for the celtics or Lakers? What stood out?
What did you think about the controversial Joey Crawford refing last nights game?
What do you think?

As a fellow Spurs fan, I'm waiting for a real analysis of the games themselves as to why this series was "exciting" and the Spurs' series "boring." I'm obviously a homer, but I just don't get it.
That aside, I always enjoy seeing the Lakers lose. :-)
Preacherman,
I think your post is so true. The Spurs I believe have the most class of any team in the NBA. I love that a few of them attend Max Lucado's church.
Tim,
I didn't think the Spurs series was boring but the way the celtics were able to shut down the offense was a definate key to the excitement, especailly last night.
Preacherman,
I loved the game last night. I was amazed at the spanking they gave the Lakers, 39 points!! Garennett was my favorite player last night. The excitement and joy he had after the game reminded me of how it is going to be for us as Christians when we get to heaven. What a joy it will be.
I don't think Joey Crawford should have been able to ref again after wanting to fight Tim Duncan. Please tell me that the series weren't manipulated.
Justin
Tim,
I totally understand. It seemed that the Spurs just didn't have the drive that should have maybe. Not that they didn't want it or didn't have heart but I believe the celtics had the passion that required a win. Joey Crawford should have called the the faul in game 5. I believe it would have changed things. I didn't like the hype of comparing Bryant to Jordan or even the commentators saying and I quote "Bryant is the best player in the world." You could totally tell they were for the Lakers.
David,
I agree as I mentioned before that I believe that the Spurs have the most class in the NBA both on and off the court. The celtics really played fair and well during the series. Last night I believe their character shinned through.
Stan,
I also enjoyed the lead they had through out the night. I think that is what made the game so much fun to watch. It is definately going to be a game that goes down as one of the best series games ever.
Justin,
I also feel that Joey Crawford shouldn't be allowed to ref because of what he said to Tim Duncan. It was totally unprofessional and uncalled for!
Preacherman,
I think the celtics showed us last night how to work together as a team. Each of the players were looking to each other to win. Each person was an important key to winning the game. The big three understood that they had to sacrifice ego, pride, in order to win. I like how that relates to us as Christians. Each of us as believers have to look at other believers to win. We are all apart of the team.
Hi PM,
I'm not into basketball, so i don't have any thought on it!
hope y'all R well! ;)
Thanks Jel.
I have good days and bad days.
Today is a good day.
:-)
Big Fan,
Great points and thoughts on how to relate it to believers.
It was a great game.
Go Celtics!
Glad they won. I'm wearing green today in their honor.
This was one of the most exciting nights of my life. Really, when you can see two fabulous teams come together in competition it's always fantastic. But to see your own team in person bring down the other team in a storied competion...ahhh, bliss. Green is the new yellow and purple!
basket ball? i thought that was a winter sport!
interesting post subject..preacherman!
peace and Love to you and all
Sorry, I was watching the Euro 2008. Anybody else see Turkey catch up to the Czechs in the last half? That was amazing! Anyone?...
Hey, PM, you've commented on my blog and as a result I started reading yours. Forgive me of my ignorance, but I've been praying for whatever illness you have (actually I've been praying for you, not the illness).
I was busy teaching class during the game, which surprisingly they did air live on Chinese TV. I had mixed feelings about the series. I am neither a big Lakers or Celtics fan but I thought it was cool that the old rivalry between these two franchises was revived some in this series.
I am never a fan of Joey Crawford reffing any game. He just always seems like a not very nice guy.
Sparquay,
Thank you for your prayers. I have been recovering from GBS which a disease the affect your nervous system. I was paralyzed for 3 months and had to learn how to walk again. I wenth through both physical and occupational therapy. I still have severe nerve pain and migranes. I have really come along way and God has been so graceous in answering so many prayers. He is so good. I am now able to walk and preach again. As I mentioned I still have neurological pain but have a wonderful neurologist. I appreciate your prayers. I have also been enjoy the Euro 2008. Love soccer. Especially the English Premeir League.
Who is going to win the Euro? It has been good mathchups.
Rogueminister,
I am glad you got to see the replay. I totally agree with you about Joey Crawford. I think the technical he gave Doc Rivers was totally uncalled for!
I thought the way they played the entire series was incredible.
Although I root for the home team, Orlando Magic, I've been a Celtic fan from the days of the "big red-head, Dave Cowens," Jo-Jo White, Paul Silas, Don Nelsen, and John Havlicek. The Larry Bird-Robert Maxwell - Kevin Mchale - Dennis Johnson - Danny Ainge era was just icing on the cake.
Hats off to the modern day Celtics.
cwinwc,
I love the way Kevin Garnett played with such passion and drive. I remembered Larry Bird when the Celetics started hitting all of those 3 pointers.
I didnt see the game. All I can say is that Boston must have been one wild town that night.
I didn't make myself clear about the Spurs. After the Lakers won, lots of sports writers wrote: "Thank goodness we don't have to suffer through another Spurs final." And people across the country talk about how boring watching the Spurs is.
My curiosity is, was there anything in the basketball itself that made this series more interesting? (I was traveling and didn't get to watch the games) All I heard was the history, the Celtics' turnaround, etc. What makes Lakers-Celtics inherently more "watchable" than Cavs-Spurs?
My suspicion is that it is more about large market vs. small market than actual basketball. Years ago, David Stern was asked what his dream final would be. He answered "Lakers-Lakers." That pretty well sums it up.
Oh... the real question is, how did Crawford get to ref two Spurs games during the playoffs, given his history with that team?
Grace and peace,
Tim
You have to admire KG's passion as well as his unselfish play.
I still can't believe Crawford was allowed to ref two spurs games. I was so pissed off.
Tim,
I totally understand what you mean.
Mike,
Boston was celebrating like crazy this entire week.
cwinwc,
Yes, KG's passion and selflessness make the game what it was, a win! You have to admire all the players for playing as a team. No ego's, totally leaning on each other to make the shots that needed to be make. I think that is really what made the game so great.
I think the Spurs being boring is because the sports writers are having trouble coming up with new material on the same guys who have been winning year after year. They have to have something to complain about I guess. I personally love the Spurs, but they just didn't seem to have as much heart this year. Don't know, just a feeling I got.
Did anybody see the Croatia/Turkey game? How was it? I missed it traveling today.
Mrs. Preacherman
Thought I'd weigh in and say that Boston is still celebrating. We know how lucky we are to have KG and Ray Allen here. But Paul, for some of us it's all about Paul Pierce. He's been here for 10 years and he's been a rock.
As for refs...ugh. I have such huge issues with Stern and the refs. But I'm too busy still getting goose bumps over the win to complain right now.
Well, I have to say it: Lifelong Lakers fan here. I grew up in the L.A. area during the 80's Lakers heyday, so there is no cure. But, I will also say that I respect the Spurs a great deal, and generally pull for them if the Lakers don't have a stake in the game. As for the Finals, it wasn't in the cards this time. The Lakers just weren't the better team, and I have to admit that the C's deserved it. They just played better, and with more heart. Chalk one up for the leprechaun!
Basketball right? our American Sports coverage is kind of limited here...
I saw a bit of the games on our cable TV network I think.. Boston v LA?
I was hoping the Spurs were there... I remember collecting all the David Roberston basketball cards as a kid (only exposure we ever had to the NBL in Australia in those days)
haha NBA isn't it?
I think the NBL is the Aussie comp...
