Forget Paris Hilton- Did You Hear About Mary Winkler

Mary Winkler the preacher's wife who murdered her husband as he lay in his bed was charged with voluntary manslaughter in April. Today she was sentenced to 3 years in prison, but with time served may be released on probation in a little less than two months. Winkler must serve 210 days of her sentence but gets credit for 143 days she already has spent in jail. Do the math, that only leaves 67 days so Judge McCraw said up to 60 days of her sentence may be served in a mental health treatment facility. Lawyers are saying that she might only spend another week in jail.

Does this sentencing shock you? Why? or Why not? How does it make you feel? She committed murder. She took a life of a man who could have kept preaching the good news of the Kingdom of God for who knows how more many years. Who know how more souls could have been saved through his message of God's Word. His wife shot him in the back. In the back. She maybe out of jail in a week and on probation for committing murder. What does this say about our society today? Our justice system in America? The value of life in America?

Honestly I don't know the reason, you don't know the reason, her lawyers don't know the reason, the jury really doesn't know the reason, the judge doesn't know the reason, but the only two who honestly know is Mary Winkler and God.

What do you think?

Not nearly enough time. I dont' think we take life, and the taking of it, seriously enough.

Jel,
Yes it is very sad. I feel sorry for the kids, grandparents, and family. It is also sad how America can sentence a person who has committed murder to such a short time. It is a poor reflection on how our society and justice.

Preacherman,

I'm not sure my feelings on this. I guess my problems is I haven't followed the story enough to know how I feel. I know murder is never justified, but I don't know her honest reason for doing it. I just pray she'll find love, forgiveness and grace.

I get more angry at people who drive drunk and kill others and then don't pay a high enough sentence for their crime.

Thanks for being my friend!

Chance, interesting picture to go along with your point.

Preacherman,
thanks for the visit. I am curious as to when you were at LCU?

I feel very sorry for the whole family. The kids lost both parents in that moment. Even if she is out of prison, she is going to be punished her whole life for it. She said somethings about him during the trial that some would say justified it. Even if he was a jerk, it was not justified - there are other ways out that are not sinful. I think she should do quite a bit of time in a mental facility not necessarily a prison.
The whole thing is very sad.
Kathy

Preacherman, I know what your saying is true, just wish I could put into words what I'm thinking about this , I can't so I wont try.

I thinks that why I have a picture blog, cause I don't have to say any thing, guess you would call that being a coward!

Jel,
I totally understand the point you where trying to make. I greatly appreciate your comment. I understand the great sorrow that the kids must have felt in loosing both parents. The grandparents felt in loosing a son and son-in-law and the regret and guilt. Again I appreciate you adding to this discussion and feel free to do so anytime.

The point that I am trying to make with this post is to point out how America values human life vs. possessions, drug use, etc. Our justice has become like that of the Israelites during the time of the prophets. The rich get treated different than the poor. Murderers get lesser sentences than those who steal and rob. We must pray. We must turn to God once again as a nation.

I pray for Paris Hilton as I do Mary Winkler understand that we have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. God wants all men to come to repentance.

I pray for the Winkler family. I pray that they find the peace and comfort that only God can provide and that they will continue to lean on Him. May God bless you and your lives with a double portion of blessings because of this crisis. Feel His Grace and Mercy during this time of need.

As Christians let's us keep them in our prayers.

Hah! I hope it doesn't offend people. It is an ironic picture of Chuck Norris, not an earnest picture. I've only shot a gun a couple times in my life, and never at people.
