Does Christianity Need Celebrities?

Does Christianity need celebrities? Whether it be so called celebrity Pastors, Authors, or Entertainers do we want or need them representing Christianity? Is there the danger of mis-representation Jesus and the ideas of what Jesus believes? Don't or wouldn't so called, "Christian Celebrities" eventual fail, sin? What does it do to the others when we Hold them up or idolize them? Should we idolize others at all?

  1. There have been a few leaders who have done well in representing the gospel in the public square. Sadly there have been many many more who have besmirched the name of Christ in a public way.

  2. Paul had to deal with the problem of "super-apostles" (2 Corinthians 11-12) and my guess is we'll always have them. I think a legitimate way to weigh what they say and do: Are they primarily proclaimers of Christ or promoters of self? We need all the selfless proclaimers we can get! The others ... we could use "less of self and more of Thee."

  3. I think more often than not "Celeb" Christian do not help the cause. A few do but many just become lighting rods for the media.
