Being Relevant

What does it mean to be relevant to the world as a Church or Christian? Do you think it is important to be relevant? Why or why not? How do we make church, worship and Jesus relevant to others? Do we loose people if the message and gospel we present isn't relevant? What happens when Christianity become irrelevant to those we are trying to reach? Why do so many Christians think it is a sin or wrong to be relevant? Do you believe it is wrong? Why or why not? What are you or your church doing to be relevant to the world?

What do you think?

  1. The best evidence and joy of our relevance is in our ability to declare the message of the kingdom regardless of the day, time or circumstance. This may well be even inspite of any reluctance or being out of the mundaness of our comfort zone, because of our obedience.

This is definitely not something which, contrary to what many saints think, comes naturally. It comes in the power of the indwelling Spirit and to the glory of our Father. It is what Jesus modeled. No matter where he found himself, what was at hand or the day of the week it was, not the "perfect moment" as much as it was the relevant moment. The message of the gospel is always in season. It is always relevant just as are they who make that message know to a lost world.

  2. Being relevant is important but it is hard because it involves change. If we refuse to change how we present the gospel we will cease to be relevant even though the gospel is always relevant.
