The question is:

What does it mean to have peace?

I don't know. I am still trying to find that out about life. When I find the answer I will let you know.

I am striving to be the best husband, father, Christian that I can be. I think as I strive to do the will of God and know Him more each day and be the best person I can be; I might find that peace. I do know that I am promised a peace that will never perish, spoil or fade in heaven. I long for that day. I believe the more we give ourselves over to His will and do our purpose in Christ the more peace we find in our lives.

I love the story of Mother Teresa. It is said that a boy wrote a card her a asking how he could make a difference in the world the way she had made. The boy recieved a card from her with the words, "Find your own Calcutta." I think when we find our own Calcutta, our purpose in life and what God wants from us, we find the peace.

My challenge to you in this post is to "Find your own Calcutta."

And see if you find a little peace in your life.

What do you think?

Share your thoughts.

I think that we may ultimately find peace when we stop trying and just let God 'do'. Giving in to Him completely and knowing that we can't 'do' it, only He can. Let Him show us our Calcutta.
Just my thoughts.
I really liked yours. Thanks for sharing and giving a venue for my mind this morning.
I hope you continue to improve.

to believe in Jesus and to Love Jesus, to humbly Love God and to Love one other. to give up the mind and ways of the world and put on the ways of God. become who we truly are in God. peace in our hearts and mind is part of the journey. we put peace on a bit at a time as we take off a bit of the old man and put on a bit of the new. it is all a process, a journey, glorious transition. trust, faith, giving over leads to a peace in the mind, heart and soul. a peace within us that is between our spirit and the Holy Spirit.

keep the faith preacherman!
rest in Jesus :-)

My wife's plaque has always had a lot of meaning to me. It says:

Peace is not the absence of suffering but the presence of God.

Terry,
Yes, Mother Teressa has always been an inspiration to me. I love this story because it shows where here heart was and where she herself found fulfillment and peace of the calling of God.

I too love that thought!: Find your own Calcutta.

I really wonder if I've done that, even at my age. But I really want to realize the meaning of that in my own life. Maybe in simple, everyday ways, in the world around me among people and friend.

Thanks.

The only way to peace is to yield control.. worry and anxiety is all about living and controlling your life from your head.. we can only live from our heart when we yield control to our heart.

preacherman-
I AMEN "keith's" comments.
I submit that God has chosen our "Calcutta" for us... the world around us and that we need to prayerfully find that part of "Calcutta" that He has specifically for us.

Just wanted to let you know that you filled my prayers today. Hope that things are going better for you.

Your comments about peace are all too true for me right now. Our life has been full of church planting transition, and as we begin work with Soma, I'm thankful that I've had the past month to meet with God in moments of solitude.

Morning,
I want to thank everyone for their wonderful comments and adding to this discussion. I appreciate your continued prayers as I struggle with migraines and the painful nureological effects of GBS.
I believe that Mother Teresa is an inspiration to us all. I pray that we will all find peace in our lives.
Thank you again for all your comments, prayers, and encouragement. You who visit this blog are a true blessing to me and my faith.

Ephesians 2:14 "He himself is our peace..." I understand I am taking this slightly out of context, but He really is our peace.

Peace with God and the peace of God are only found in the person of Jesus Christ. There is not a need the human heart has that Jesus himself cannot completely satisfy if we allow Him to do it.

His peace,
Royce Ogle

To exterminate all of the infidels... Ummm... I mean... Just kidding!

I think it's the whole "surpasseth understanding" thing that gets me. So am I supposed to understand? Am I not?

I think at least for me it has to do with ownership. Our church is doing a study called "Your Life On Loan".

And really the study is a reminder that everything that we have has been loaned to us by God. It kind of shifts the focus off of "ME" to "HIM".

Good post... I have more to say, but could probably go on for a long time. (You know how I like to ramble).

Great post, preacherman! And I also love how everyone has spurred my thinking even further on this. "Find your own Calcutta." Just recently God has been reminding me that I need to stop just doing my own thing, doing what seems to make sense, and instead do what He has been leading me to do.

I like ancientwanderer thought about how God has a Calcutta for each of us already. The challenge, sometimes, is finding it, and sometimes is saying "yes."

Somehow this reminds me of a little story I just read called The Three Questions. It's based on a Leo Tolstoy tale and suggests that the most important time is now, the most important person is the one before us and the most important thing to do is to do good to the one at our side. Which suggests to me that sometimes our Calcutta is very near indeed.
