Hurricane Katrina A Year Later

For I a minute I want you to set aside your political views and party affilations.
You are not democrat or republican.
You are just Americans.
I want you to think about Hurrican Katrina and what you saw on the news, how long it took for Amercans to get the help they needed, the destruction, how the gulf coast looks today?
May the images be forever burned into our minds so that we will never forget that those were American's who suffered. Fellow American's who lost many of their family members, friends, homes, personal items, jobs, places of worship. Fellow Americans.
Today I want you to remember and pray for all the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

  1. I wonder what impact trading the terms "just Americans" and "fellow Americans" for "Just Christians" and "Fellow Christians" or "Just Humans" and Fellow Humans" might have on the thought.

Jesus says to love your neighbor ... despite the politics. Do we?

I know that Vandelia sent a relief team to Jasper TX shortly after Rita. I was not part of that team. But we all contributed. The team brought back photos of the devestation, and a lot of heart breaking stories. Stories that made it hard to believe they were talking about American towns.

The disaster is not over yet. There is still need for help.

    Thanks for posting on it.

    Many blessings...

  2. Mike,

    Thanks for you comments.
Good points on the "Just Christians and Fellow Christians."
It is wonderful that Vandelia did their part in making a difference in the lives of those in need during Rita.
It wonderful to see God's people, "fellow Christians" doing the things that "just Christians" should do.
Praise God and thank you for your comments.

    Josh,

    I totally agree.
I think everyone should have looked beyond political lines and saw American's. It angers me that so many American's had to suffer because they were in a state democrat instead of republican. People saw them as poor black democrats instead of Americans who needed help.

  5. Thank you for this reminder. For anyone who is interested, there are a couple other really moving Katrina anniversary blog entries. One is by John Dobbs on Out Here Hope Remains (http://remains.blogspot.com) and the other is by Bobby Cohoon at Little Sorrel (http://littlesorrel.blogspot.com). Please take the time to look at these and to remember that the disaster hasn't even BEGUN to end yet.

    in HIS love,
    Nick
