Vacation Bible School

We just finished our Vacation Bible School. It was for ages 2 year old through 6th grade. The youth group from Westside in Midland, Tx came down and did a fantastic job. The youth group door knocked the entire town, then decorated. On Sunday we had 23 kids, Monday 57, Tuesday 46, and Wed night for our final program we had 65.
The teens form Midland did a wonderful job doing service in the community. They picked up trash at the park, served at the nutrition center, cleaned a studio that is going to be used for ballet, tap dance, karate for the youth of the community, and cleaned windows for businesses in town.
They ended the week by going tubing in Juction at the Llano River. The group was such a blessing.
I met alot of parents and have 50 contacts to follow up on.
Isn't great to see that youth groups aren't just about fun and games but about service. As a former youth minister it is great to see that youth still have a heart of Christ when it comes to service. Teens are often sterio-typed as being lazy, complainers, these teens proved that sterio-type wrong.
I am so thankful to God for this week and know he is going to bless Westside and Rocksprings.

How has VBS made a difference at your church?
Do you have any memories of VBS? Stories? Testimonies?
Is VBS a good tool for evangelism?
Does it make a difference in the lives of the kids who are unchurched? How?
Did your kids go to VBS this year?
Let me know what you think?

  1. OK, I know I'm being a grouch, and it's a poor attitude ... but VBS almost convinces me of the existence of purgatory. Although I'm glad you had a good one!

I think it is wonderful anytime a child especially unchurched gets taught the Bible and about Jesus.
    Praise God.
Glad to hear your VBS went so good.

    A fellow servant of Christ.

  3. We had a two day camp for friends and kids. It was great. Our neighbor was up bright and early to go with us to Church today.

I have heard great stories about children touched by VBS who became believers as adults.

    Sow those seeds.

I personally hated VBS and thought it was lame by the way.

  4. Preacher,

Our church really values and advertises VBS. It's really great to see the children's lives changed through the classes and dramas our church does.

  6. I know I'm late responding by more than a year (!!!) but I was looking for VBS testimonies for a project I'm working on. I LOVED VBS as a child - the crafts, games, stories, puppet dramas and neon chalk dramas, and the penny march for missions! As a teen I got to take part in the puppet programs and radio dramas! I even taught one year, but I'm not a gifted teacher and got stress headaches every day. Oh well.

My children went to VBS every summer until they passed the maximum age. It's too bad that teens aren't included in VBS.

Oh, and I wanted to tell you that a year or two ago I heard from an old elementary school friend. She had a bad childhood and was a wild child. Well, she wanted me to know that one of the best memories she had from her childhood was of when I took her to VBS with me, and that she is now a Christian! She thanked me for my part in bringing her to the Lord! You never know what seeds are sown or when they might take root and grow! God does use VBS to bring people to Him!
