Does God need us to defend Him?

I have heard church songs about defending God, standing up for God, fighting for God? I have also sermons on the above. So, my question is does God need us to defend him? Why or why not? If so, why do we need to defend or stand up for, or fight for God? Has they church done this and has it helped? If so how, if not why not? Why do so many people think God needs to be defended? Do you? Why or why not? If so, is there a way to do it and way not to do it? What do you think? Share your thoughts.

As an "Ambassador for God - 2 Corinthians 5:19ff. - HE makes His appeal through US" DEFEND? Not sure He NEEDS that - but misunderstandings happen and Ambassadors do share HIS APPEAL - but the Greek is closer to BEG - WE BEG you to be reconciled to God" - so defend is pretty narrow . . .even the "ready answer" is focused on OUR HOPE - hopefully, through what JESUS did . . .

I guess I'm a little underwhelmed by what passes for DEFENSE . . .especially when Paul writes to Timothy (2 Tim. 2) "The Lord's servant must NOT QUARREL" - and that is about all we many times do . . .theverner

God does not technically need anything from us, he existed "forever" before he made us.. but like many other things God does not need from us, he wants things from us.

Maybe he does not need defending, in the sort of protective sense, but consider:

We need to defend the faith...contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints" (Jude 3).

We are told to defend others....Rebuke the oppressor; Defend the fatherless, Plead for the widow....Isaiah 1:16.18

Perhaps the word defend is not used, but we are taught to defend ourselves.. in various ways where we have control. Shun evil, cling to good, etc. Protect ourselves, basically.

Without a doubt, one of our jobs as Christians is to teach others to defend the Gospel, the Truth, the Faith. God does not need us to do it for HIM, but for US!

Jesus did not need Peter to defend him, but he drew his sword in that effort.. not knowing of course the higher purpose of God in that moment. I admire him anyway!

If we love God, we will want to defend him against false teaching, apostacy, rumors and lies. God will withstand the attacks without our help. But will we, if we stop defending the Gospel?

The letter of Jude basically says "defend the truth".

No if God is God he should be BIG enough not to need any defending.
