  2. I have never decided to become a Christian, after all I was a Roman Catholic and anyway why would I want to be a Christian?
I was on top of the world, had a good life and everybody loved me. So again, why would I want to become a Christian?
There was absolutely no good reason for me to decide to be a Christian.

It was the Lord Jesus who decided to call me and to follow Him, just as He called Peter and Andrew (Matthew 4:18-22).
Also; He didn't call me to be a Christian but a disciple and to follow only Him, because He alone is the only way and there is no other (John 14:6).
But first He took out my wicked heart of stone and gave me a new heart of flesh (Eze. 36:26).
He elevated me from on top of the world to heavenly places and gave me better than a good life, a life which is life and life abundant (John 10:10).
Yes, the world does not love me anymore, but Jesus loves me with a love and joy inexpressible (1 Peter 1:8).
It's just so wonderful to walk with Jesus, it's like a banqueting table and His banner over me is love.
    Regards
    Paul

  3. An addition;
For anyone to decide to become a Christian is just as worthless as to decide to become Muslim, Jehovah Witness, Hare Krishnan or whatever.

Look; it is the other way around!

It is the Lord Jesus who is choosing you (Mark 13:20) and you did not choose Him (John 15:16).
It is not by your will or doing that you are in Christ Jesus our Lord (1Cor. 29:30). You were in Christ before the foundation of this world and were His children.

Think about; If you as a stranger would knock at the door of the Queen of England and say to her Majesty "Now I have decided to choose you, or Now I will receive you, or now I have decided to be your son or daughter"!
What do you think her Majesty the Queen would say to you?

Well! I can tell you exactly what she would say.

But Jesus Christ is the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords and greater than all.
It is Jesus who does all things and apart from Him we can do nothing (John 15:5).
Therefore it is not up to us to decide to be a Christian or choosing to be a follower of Jesus Christ. We would do better to humble ourself before the Lord and ask Him to forgive us all of your sins and perhaps that He might decide to receive us into His eternal Kingdom.
    Loving kindness
    Paul

Paul, I think you are on the right track. It seems from reading the scriptures that if I truly want to be a follower of Christ, it is because I was chosen in Christ before the foundation of the world (Eph 1:4), and have been born again. There is no real love for Christ, no true desire to follow Him unless He first regenerates me and gives me life. "Life precedes action." There must be spiritual life in a person before a person will do something that is spiritual in nature. Anyway, simply a Christian is one I trust that has been born again already by the sovereign will of God, has been given a new heart that loves God instead of hates Him, and also as a result of this sovereign work of God believes the gospel, when he hears it. Having believed the gospel of Jesus Christ, having seen that Christ has by His death at Calvary effected his salvation he wants to spend the rest of his days following and serving Jesus Christ. That's why I follow Him though very poorly at best.
    Sincerely,
    Shannon W.
