It is pretty hard to define what love is really? Does having scripture help us define it or does scripture even have a hard time defining it? How does scripture define love? One passage defines love as God by stating that God is love? So, if God is love, would 1 Cor 13:4-7 which describes love also be describing to us who God is as well? Does everything a Christian does involve or centered around love? Should we focus more on love? Loving God & others? Why? How?

You are probably familiar with the different Greek definitions of love Kinney. In my thinking the only kind of love that lasts is agape. This love is different from the sensual and friendship types of love because it elevates commitment and sacrifice rather than feelings and self.

ReplyDeletePerfect love is this: Jesus laid down his life. I believe we'll never understand the "full extent" of love until we are completely restored. We know bits and pieces of love. But attempting to understand perfect love will always be a process. Love is patient. Love is kind...Love is sacrifice - the perfect sacrifice.

I know I couldn't and wouldn't sacrifice my son for a stranger let alone people who hated me, would reject the love demonstrated. Hard to get our heads around sometime.

But I think what Bob is getting at is we can't understand loves fullness until we meet,except the love of God through Jesus Christ. And even believers can't understand it fully until we meet God face to face.
