  1. Dont' Waste Your Life by John Piper and Crazy Love by Francis Chan are great books to motivate me to follow Christ with passion.

Wisdom Hunter by Randall Arthur is a novel about a self-righteous preacher who loses his family and eventually his faith. Gradually, he is brought into a genuine faith in Jesus Christ, but it cost him a great deal. It was an excellent book.

  6. I'm really enjoying "Forgotten God" by Francis Chan. "Crazy Love" is good, too.
Probably the books that have helped me the most, though, are by Phillip Yancey.
"Prayer" is powerful, and really helped me when my prayer life was at its lowest (still recovering even now.)
"Where Is God When It Hurts" was EXCELLENT in helping me (and my youth group) deal with the death of one of our own...a 14 year old boy scout who died in a tornado two years ago.

  12. Great question & great answers...

    Here are some of mine:
    1) Nouwen (no book specifically)
    2) Francis Chan, Crazy Love
(need to dive in here more)
    3) Orthberg, The Life You've Always Wanted (I actually need to finish this one--This one seems to have multiple applications)
    4) 1000 Years/ Searching for God Knows What/Blue Like Jazz by Donald Miller (in that order)
    5) "Fearless" by Max Lucado
    6) Velvet Elvis, Rob Bell (less guilt...I only like about 80 to 90 of Bells' stuff....although I think Everything is Spiritual & the videos in the Nooma series are interesting and edifying modern day parables/metaphors.
    7) In a Pit with a Lion on a Snowy Day, Mark Batterson (pastor at NCC in DC). Mostly about fear & risk.
    8) I'm about to read Richard Foster's book on simplicity.

I'll have to check out that Rubel Shelly book along with "Wild at Heart"...which apparently I'm a little "behind the curve" on. I hope its ok to be a late adopter...
