  1. Tom Olbricht had a profound impact on my theology by impacting the way I read the Bible. The concept of letting the Bible itself determine which subjects are the most important was life-changing for me.

  2. A self-appointed charismatic who mentored me for 7 years. He showed me things that were unbelievable (unless you saw it with your own two eyes) and helped me to see God in a whole different light. I have grown spiritually the past 9 years to a point I didn't even know existed 10 years ago. God is great!

  3. Harold Shank's books made a great difference in my life. His "Up Close and Personal: Embracing the Poor" helped me to understand God's perspective on the poor and motivated me to become involved in urban ministry. His "Children Mean the World to God" opened my eyes to how God sees children while encouraging me during the adoption process.

John Piper's "Don't Waste Your Life" and "Desiring God" opened my eyes to a couple of central truths in theology:

    1. My life should be centered on glorifying God.
    2. I glorify God the most when I am satisfied in him and enjoy doing his will.

  4. My mother and Dr John R Rice on my prayer life.

Dr. J Vernon McGee on the grace of God toward sinners.

Dr. Henry Blackaby on leadership and discipleship.

John Piper on the scheme of redemption.

Francis Chan on what it means to love as Christ loved.

...and dozens more over the almost 50 years of my life in Christ. God continues to teach me by using gifted people that he has greatly used for His glory.

Ok, couldn't resist the opportunity to give the one-word answer. I often wish that it was that simple (or that I allowed it to be that simple).

  9. John Calvin, Jonathan Edwards, John Owen, Charles H. Spurgeon, D.A. Carson, John Piper, & Wayne Grudem.

I should give credit the guys who told me Calvinism was wrong, because of my rebellious spirit,I began studying it deeply, and studying Scripture. I figured out that there are some issues for me there, but there was more agreement with the reformed view in Scripture than not.

  11. I want to thank each of you for sharing it has encouraged my faith.

There have been many people who have influenced my theology. Jesus of course being the first. Parents, various ministers and youth ministers. Dr. Stacy Patty from LCU really influenced and changed the way I think about faith, God and the church. I am so thankful for those who have my life for Theos.

  12. I only had one class with Stacy Patty, but he taught me how to think theologically. He could take complex concepts and make them accessible.

I've been profoundly influenced by Rubel Shelly, Martin Luther, and one of my Bible college intstructors--Stephen Broyles.

  13. The greatest influence to my theology has been my interaction with Kelly Anders, leader of the Atheist Association of Manhattan. We are never more challenged to stand on the rock than when the ground around us is shaking violently.
I've been out of touch for a while preacherman... long story, I'm back in the loop although much busier than previously. Looking forward to catching back up.
