The Island: Thoughts on Human Cloning

On monday night I watched an incredible movie, The Island. It was about cloning and how clones had their own thoughts, feelings, individuality. The movie got me to thinking.
We clone animals right now. Texas A&M and other universities have cloned goats, horses, and an assortment of other animals. Is human clonning around the corner? Is it okay to clone? What about cloning human body parts for transplants? Will it human cloning happen in your lifetime? Will a human clone have a soul?
What do you think?

  1. Personally, I hope the human cloning doesn't work.

Cloning will put the responsibility on the shoulders of parents (what they want in a child, etc) instead of letting God create the child He knows is best for us.

The question I ask myself is "Will God breathe the same breath of life into cloned humans?" Sure He can, but will He?

  2. Josh,

    Thanks for your comments.
Can you believe there is already sex selection that parents now can choose the sex of their child.
I believe human cloning will happen one day with the advancements of science. Can we copy the spirit? Can we dulpicate what God has put in each of us?

We say every living person has a soul. Would the clone be any different? Something to consider.

    Josh, again, excellent thoughts.

  3. If I had a clone I would let him do all the weddings and funerals while I hung out at the lake.

  4. Wade,
    You made me laugh.
I enjoy the wedding so I would let my clone do the funerals.

  5. Wade,

But what happens when the Clone gets wise, clones himself a clone to do weddings and funerals?

I would just keep your eyes open at the lake.

  7. Wade,

Have you seen the movie Multiplicity?

Wade we don't need anymore of you running around.
One of you is quite enough.

If we are cloning animals right now, who is to say that we can't clone humans down the road too.
Will it have a soul? If it is alive, yes. Will the religous world accept clones into the church? Will society accept them or will they be discriminated against?

Preacherman, thank you for making me think on this one.

    Jeff
