God Dosne't Care If We Are Happy or Not

As americans we pursue happiness. It is one of our cerntain unalienable rights: Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. God Doesn't Care If We Are Happy or Not, God Cares If We Are Holy or Not. Consider Josheph: Sold into slavery by his own brothers, seperated from his father who loved him deeply, falsely accused of rape, thrown in prison, forgotten about by those he helped (happy experiences?). But he remained holy. Consider the holy man named Job: Lost house, family, livestock, wife, friends, healthy, everything(Was he happy about his life?). He remained holy. Consider Paul: Endured hardships, distresses, beatings, imprisonment, tortures, shipwrecks, sleepless nights, and hunger. He remained holy and faithful unto death.
He calls us to holiness (see 1 Peter 1:115-16;Romans 12:1;1 Thess. 4:7;2 Tim. 1:8-9).
Only in God do we find true happiness.
When we live holy lives happiness will be the result.
Remember God doesn't call us to happiness, he calls us to holiness.
May we live up to our high calling in Christ and experience the happiness that comes through godly living.

  1. Methinks you're mistaken. God is very much concerned whether or not we're happy. That's pretty much the gist of the Beatitudes, and there's no doubt that much of the NT message is about joy. See, et al., Phil. 4.
